The best tip I ever read was this: just write. Sort of like, just do it.
Sit. Get a pen or pencil. Or sit at a computer, start Notes or Word or Pages. Look at the blank page and write a sentence. Anything will do. My cat has black fur. Revise if you need to. My cat has white fur with creamy spots. The other day he slipped under our fence and disappeared ... Pretty soon, it may take a few days, but pretty soon, the words will flow. The stories will come because the characters, in this case, my cat, will write them.
